On 6th July, 2011 Wednesday, International Olympic Committee declared that Winter Olympics 2018 will be held in Pyeongchang, South Korea. In 2010 and 2014, South Korea came second in bidding in 2010 and 2014 to host Winter Olympics.

Asia is a lucrative part of the world for sports events and South Korea has the experience to host Summer Olympics and in order to expand winter sports in Asian continent, it was the first choice and won on the first ballot of a secret vote of delegates of International Olympic committee. Munich and Annecy, France was another venue bidding to host Winter Olympics 2018 but could not compete with Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Budget for Winter Olympics 2018 by SOuth Korea was much more that other bidders. According to news reports it was as much as 1.5 billion dollars for the games and 2 to 6 billions for infrastructure development.

Asian Country after a long time will get the prestige to host the biggest sports event. Earlier Winter Olympics was held twice in Asian Countries that is in 1968 and 1998 and at both occasions Japan got the honour to host Winter Olympics.
