Daniel started playing from a very young age of two. He turned professional in the year 2004, when he was eighteen years of age. He won the European Championships in 2003 beating Marcos Baghdatis in Switzerland, winning a further 5 junior titles to reach No. 4 in the world. On his way to the Quarter Final place, he also beat Marko Djokovic though further losing to Jo- Wilfried Tsonga.
