Serena Williams who just made her come back after nearly a year of injuries, won the final in Stanford, California (7-5 6-1). This present American was beaten twice in the opening match, but she came back when Bartoli was serving for the set at 5-4.

Serena Williams showed no mercy over Bartoli by winni g straight eight matches on her way to the victory. Serena had fallen from world Number 1 to 169 for her time out injury.

With this win she has claimed herself again the 38th position after a year of drop out. She is making her third career appearance at this competition and had reached its quarter finals in 2009 and semi finals in 2009. She has chosen to use an injury protector ranking to make her way into the main draw of the US Open, which begins on the 29th August at the Flushing Meadows.

She needed only 59 minutes to defeat Lisicki, closing both sets and preceded to a lead 3-1 in the first frame and a 4-1 in the second on her way to the finals.

On the other hand Bartoli defeated Ayumi Morita very easily and forced her to retire at the start of the second set. Bartoli then directly proceeded to the Finals for the eighth seeded wild card withdrew because of an abdominal pain.
