Rutendo-Munashe Maruta who was born in the year 1996, is a precocious swimming talent. The 100 medals she has collected since she was just seven at Borrowdale Primary school, Harare, in 2007 prove the above fact.
The best way to define her would be by saying that she is a blooming new talent in the world of swimming. Rutendo started swimming at a very young age of seven years. Since 2008, when she was just 12 years had been the swimming champion for age groups 8, 9, 10, 11 and she is still aiming to reach the skies.
When asked how she feels to be a swimming champion, she replied, "It feels really great and people now know that I'm out there and I am serious competition and I'm going to come first in all my races"
In an interview, Maruta terms swimming as the passion of her life. She goes on to say, "For me, swimming is like taking your first step in the world and getting what you've always wanted. When I swim I feel like I am on top of the world," She also adds that she loves being in water.
"I am very serious with my sport; in 2016, I'll be at the Olympics, most definitely. It's a goal that I have set for myself. I don't believe in the word I can't because the impossible is possible all the time."
Maruta won her first shied titled the "Pakenhan Shield" named after one of the best swimmers to come out of Borrowdale Primary school when she was only in Grade One.
With the record of her haul of medals, mostly gold, Maruta has participated in practically at all the major swimming competitions in Zimbabwe, from provincial to natural championships even. She is at present in the Mashonaland and Zimbabwe junior swimming teams, and because of her extraordinary talent, she has also been incorporated into the senior swimming team.
In this year 2011, Maruta participated in the Confederation Africaine De Natation Ameteur Zone 3 and 4 Swimming Championships in Gaborone, Botswana where she put p a good competition.
"The competition was very stiff I came fourth in most of my races," said Maruta, presently a member of Sharks Swimming Club. She is coached by Kathy Lobb, in this club who is a veteran swimming coach.
In 2009, Maruta participated in the Senior Swimming Championship in Zimbabwe even beats guys older than her and she was excessively happy because of this fact. She said, "It felt good because I beat some of the seniors who think they're original gangsters."
The Sports Recreation Commission recoznized Maruta's talents and in 2009 itself awarded her the Junior Sports Personality Award.Rutendo-Munashe Maruta swimming styles
This young swimmer is a champion in freestyle, backstroke, breast stroke and butterfly. She said that it was her brother Graham Munyaradzi who inspired her to take up swimming.
To keep up her swimming career intact Rutendo-Munashe Maruta diet is watched closely. She said that she does not tolerate any junk food.
