Golf is a precision sport in which competitors compete against each other attempting to hit the ball into a hole using clubs at a golf course while employing the fewest number of strokes. This typical ball-playing game is not played in a specified playing area, but at a golf course which vary in nature. Each golf course has about nine or eighteen holes. Golf competition is played for the lowest number of strokes by an individual, known as stroke play in golf or for the lowest score on the most individual holes during a complete round by an individual or team known as match play in golf.
Golf is defined in the 'Rules of Golf' as "playing a ball with a club from the teeing ground into a hole by a stroke or successive strokes in accordance with the rules". The rules of golf are jointly written and administered by the R&A (The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews) which is the governing body of golf worldwide except in United States and Mexico. •The player must Tee your Ball within a clubs length of the hole.
•The Tee must be on the ground.
•The player is not allowed to change the Ball which he strikes off.
•Removal of stones, bones or any break club is not allowed on the part of the golfer except upon the fair green within a club's length of the ball.
•If the ball falls in the water or any watery filth, the player has the liberty to take out the ball, bring it behind the hazard and then tee it. He/she may play it with any club and allow the adversary a stroke.
•If the player's Balls are seen to be touching each other, one is supposed to lift the first ball till one plays the last.
•At the hole, you should honestly play upon your ball and not your Adversary's.
•If the player is to lose a ball, for any uncertain reason, he is to return back to the spot where he had got stuck and also allow his Opponent a extra shot as penalty.
•No player is allowed to mark the way for the ball to the hole with his club.
•If a ball is stopped by a man, horse, dog or anything else, the ball is to be played from where it has been stopped.
•In case of the breaking of a club during strike, it is to be accounted as a strike anyway.
•He whose ball lies farthest from the hole is to play first.
•The club used by the golfer must not have too much of a 'spring' effect.
In addition to the rules of the golf, the players have to adhere to a code of conduct known popularly as etiquette, which generally means playing the game with respect to the golf course and the other golf players.Technical Terms Used in Golf
Some important technical terms in Golf are:
•Golf Clubs: The clubs are used to hit the golf ball. They are of mainly four types: Woods, Irons, Hybrids and Putter.
•Golf Balls: These balls are typical to the game of golf. They are spherical, usually white and minutely pock-marked by dimples.
•Golf Tee: The tee is allowed to the golfer for playing of the first stroke on each hole, unless a player must hit a provisional tee shot or replay his/her first shot from the tee.
• Par: The number of strokes a skilled golfer should require to complete the play of the hole is defined as par.
• Handicap: it is a numerical measure of an amateur golfer's playing ability based on the tees played for a given course. It is calculated with a specific arithmetic formula that approximates how many strokes above or below par a player should be able to play.
