The disappointing performance of Team India in Australia continues. Australia beat India for 31 runs in the first T20 match held at Sydney. This time the young brigade too make impressive performance. India could score only 140 against 6 wickets in reply to the Australian total 171/4.
Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who won the toss, asked the Aussies to bat first. George Bailey, who debuting for Australia both as a player and a captain was happy to do that. The openers David Warner and Travis Birt gave Australia a good start. At 25, Warner was sent back by Vinay Kumar and Birt (17) was sent back by Ashwin. But wicketkeeper Mathew Wade and David Hussey started the attack to the Indian camp and raised the score fastly. Wade scored his maiden international T20 fifty in just 33 balls. Rain interrupted the play in the 15th over, but the match resumed soon. Soon Wade was bowled by Raina. He had scored 72 from 43 balls then. Then Hussey led the attack till he got bowled by Rahul Sharma at 42 in the penultimate ball of the innings.
Australia set a target of 172 for India. The team lost Sehwag in the first over itself. Though Gambhir and Virat Kohli tried to increase the score steadily, the out of Gambhir while trying for a loose shot made things worse. In the next over, Kohli (22) gave his wicket to the recalled Aussie spinner Brad Hogg. Rohit Sharma (0), Suresh Raina (14) and Ravindra Jadeja (7) couldn't do much. India ended their innings at 140 for the loss of 6 wickets. The occassional big hits from skipper Dhoni were the only things India had to remember. Dhoni stood not out at 48 from 43 balls. David Hussey and Daniel Christian took 2 wickets each for Australia. For his super innings, Mathew Wade was declared the Man of the Match.
Now, Australia leads in the T20 series 1-0. The last match in the series will be held on friday.
