The Irish Open was first played in 1927 till 1950. It was again restarted in 1975. The tournament was sponsored by Carroll from 1963 to 1993. From 1994-2002 the event was sponsored by Murphy. Famous automobile company Nissan sponsored this event from 2002 to 2006. Due to losses the company withdrew the sponsorship of the tournament.
The prize money of the tournament in 2009 and 2010 was 3 million Euros. But due to losses faced by the sponsors, the prize money was reduced to 1.5 million Euros in 2011 event.Previous years Winners of Irish Open
