West Indies won the first test by nine wickets which was played at North Sound. The team registered a five wicket win in the second test played at Kingston, Jamaica. West Indian fast bowler Kemar Roach was named as the Player of the series for taking wickets in both tests. He took 12 wickets in the series with an excellent average of 18.25 runs per wicket. New Zealand batsman Martin Guptill was the top run-scorer in the series. He made 277 runs with an average of 69.25.
In the first test played at North Sound West Indies easily defeated New Zealand. After winning the toss New Zealand opted to bat and made a good total of 351. West replied strongly with the centuries from Kieran Powell and Chris Gayle. Gayle made an explosive 150 runs in the first innings of the team. West Indies ended the innings with 522 on the scoreboard. Kemar Roach then destroyed the New Zealand innings with a bowling figure of 5/60. West Indies easily achieved the target by losing only one wicket. The second match was more competitive where New Zealand team gained a lead of 51 runs in the first innings but due to the failure in the second innings the team failed to avoid a loss as West Indies easily achieved the target of 206 by losing only five wickets.
