Early Career
Patty Schnyder started playing professional tennis in 1993. In 1995, she played in Zurich Open and was defeated in second round. In 1996, she made her first Grand Slam tournament appearance in French Open but lost in the first round. She later also participated in Wimbledon tournament of that year bu again lost in the first round of the tournament. She also made into the Top 100 of the women's singles ranking in 1996.
1997-2011
Her biggest achievement in 1996 came at Rome Masters where she reached the semi-final of the tournament. Her performance in Grand Slam tournaments of that year also improved. She participated in all four Grand slam events in 1996. She reached to the fourth round of the Australian Open, third round of French Open and US Open. In 1998, she won her first WTA singles title at Moorilla Habart International defeating belgium player Dominique van Roost by 6-3,6-2 in the final. She won four more WTA singles titles in 1998. She also become the quarter-finalist of both French Open and US Open in the same year. She also entered the Top 10 of the women's singles ranking in 1998.
In 1999, she won Mondial Australian Women's Hardcourts tournament defeating Mary Pierce by 4-6,7-6,6-2 in the final. Her performance drops in early 2000s. However she won Zurich Open in 2002 beating top player Lindsay Davenport by 6-7,7-6,6-3 in the final. In 2004, she become the semi-finalist of Australian Open of that year. This is her best performance ever in a Grand Slam event in singles. In 2005, Schnyder reached her best ever ranking of No. 7. She won Cincinati Masters and Mondial Australian Women's Hardcourts tournaments in 2005. She won her last WTA singles title at Commonwealth Bank Tennis Classic where she defeated Tamira Paszek by 6-3,6-0 in the final.
Doubles
Patty Schnyder is also a good doubles player. She has won five WTA doubles titles in her career. She was most successfully partenered with Austrian player Barbara Schett. Both Barbara nad Patty won three doubles titles. She was also partenered with Magdalena Maleeva and Anna-Lena Gronefeld.
