With the help of a century stand between their openers and some excellent bowling by Cornelius de Villiers, South African club Titans registered an easy win against Perth Scorchers team in the opening match of the 2012 Champions League Twenty20 tournament.Great Batting display by Titans Openers
Jacques Rudolph and Henry Davids proved the decision of Scorchers captain Marcus North of choosing to field after winning the toss, with their century partnership. Both added 109 runs for the first wicket in just 12.2 overs. Davids was very much aggressive in his initial part of the innings. He slowed down when reached near his half-century. Rudolph also played some very intelligent stroke in his not out innings of 83 runs in 59 deliveries. Davids was bowled by Beer in 13th over, reading his total 54 off 38 balls hitting 4 fours and the same number of sixes. Though in death overs Nathan Rimmington and Joe Mennie bowled very good overs which restricted the titans score to only 163 in 20 overs. Only five runs was conceded by these two bowlers in 19th and 20th overs.Titans bowled well to restrict Scorchers
After restricting the Titans to a score of 163, Perth Scorchers batting line-up looks good to chase the total. Batsman like Herschelle Gibbs, Shaun Marsh, Simon Katich and Mitchell Marsh are considered best in their business. But Titans bowlers gave nothing to them by bowling according to the conditions. Cornelius de Villiers was at his best. He removed Shaun Marsh and captain Marcus North in fourth over of their innings. The fall of quick wickets created pressure on both the senior players on the crease - Gibbs and Katich. They played very slow which results in the increase in the required run rate after every over passing. In 8th over Alfonso Thomas took the wicket of Gibbs. In middle overs Titans bowlers continued their tight bowling. Reolf van der Merwe and Mbhalati gave nothing to the Scorchers to score easily. Only Mitchell Marsh played with some respite against them. His knock of 52 off 41 balls do nothing good to his team and just reduced the gap of the defeat. At the end Titans won by 39 runs. Cornelius de Villiers took three wickets for 16 runs in his quota of 4 overs. He was declared as the Player of the Match for this performance.Match Scorecard and Details
