Judo is a modern martial art, a form of combat sport founded in 1882 by Kano Jigoro, the President of the University of Education, Tokyo. In 1964 Judo was introduced into Olympic Games. Judo follows the principles of Jujitsu a weaponless system of self defence. Participants in Judo are awarded coloured belts that indicate their level of achievement. Beginners wear white, followed by yellow, orange, green, blue, brown, black and red. Judogi is the traditional Judo uniform used during judo practice and competition. In Judo, bouts usually last for five minutes, although in major championships, seven minutes are allowed. Scoring in Judo is according to the finality of a throw or hold.
